Schertz is located in three counties: Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe. The largest part of the city is in Guadalupe County. The city was named Schertz in 1899 and wasn’t incorporated until 1964. The town had a cotton gin, general store and 200 residents. By 1914, the town had added a church, bank and hotel and had 350 residents. Growth was rapid from the 1920s when Randolph Air Force Base construction began. The base, known as the "Showplace of the Air Force," was dedicated on June 20, 1930.
