Schertz
 
Schertz is located in three counties: Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe. The largest part of the city is in Guadalupe County. The city was named Schertz in 1899 and wasn’t incorporated until 1964. The town had a cotton gin, general store and 200 residents. By 1914, the town had added a church, bank and hotel and had 350 residents. Growth was rapid from the 1920s when Randolph Air Force Base construction began. The base, known as the “Showplace of the Air Force,” was dedicated on June 20, 1930.

Nearby San Antonio offers plenty for Schertz residents including The Alamo, the San Antonio Zoo, Fort Sam Houston, Institute of Texan Cultures, Market Square, Riverwalk, San Antonio Botanical Gardens, Natural Bridge Caverns, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio IMAX Theatre, San Antonio Museum of Art, Scobee Planetarium, the Spanish Governor’s Palace, Seaworld San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Water park enthusiasts will also enjoy Splashtown and Schlitterbaun, the #1 water park in the U.S. located in nearby for sports fans, the San Antonio Spurs tip off at the Alamodome and there are college teams offering competition in basketball, baseball, volleyball, and soccer. Shopping and restaurants of every type can be found throughout the city.
